Frequently asked questions
What is the parking like at Max's?
Street parking is the most accessible option with two nearby parking structures. Both options require payment and we do not validate parking. We strongly recommend arriving 15 minutes early to find parking on weekends.
Do I need a reservation?
While reservations aren't necessary, they are recommended, especially on weekends. We typically sell out for large parties 1-2 weeks in advance. Our website always has the most up-to-date availability for groups of 8 or less guests.
Is your place kid-friendly?
Max's is kid friendly and we offer a kid's menu, just ask for one at the host stand! We do not seat minors at the bar rail or after 9pm.
Do you have a patio?
Max's does not have a patio or outdoor seating.
Do you have any vegan or gluten-free options?
We have several vegan and vegetarian options, and a few dishes can be modified to become vegan or vegetarian - just ask your server! We also have a dedicated gluten free menu that includes items friendly to those with gluten sensitivities and Celiac disease.
Do you have a separate area in the kitchen to prepare gluten‑free items? How do you prevent cross‑contamination?
We do not have a separate kitchen, but we take cross‑contamination very seriously. The only items that may be exposed to cross‑contamination are those that go into our shared fryer. All other gluten‑free items are prepared either on our sushi side using clean gloves and dedicated equipment, or on the sauté side using a fresh, individual pan. Our kitchen is extremely cautious when it comes to Celiac and severe allergies, so they don't reuse spoons, utensils, etc.
What makes Max's so special?
Max's urban oasis features an immersive two-story dining and drinking experience designed to transport guests to a distant tropical paradise bathed in perpetual twilight. Max's features original interior design from some of the best-known tiki artisans in the world, along with a giant collection of vintage and modern tiki art and decor.
Can I host a private event at Max's?
Absolutely! We have multiple private event options for every day of the week that can accommodate groups from 10 guests up to 150 guests. Reach out to us directly for availability options and more details on our event packages.
Do you automatically add gratuity for large parties?
Yes, for groups of 8 or more guests, a 20% auto-gratuity will be added to the bill. This helps ensure our team can provide the best possible service for your party. If you have any questions, just let us know when you make your reservation or speak with your server.
Is your restaurant accessible?
Yes, providing a welcoming and accessible experience for all of our guests is a top priority at Max's South Seas. While our building is a designated historic landmark and certain structural modifications are restricted, we have taken thoughtful steps to support accessibility wherever possible.
Our four-story building is equipped with an elevator, which is available for guest use at any time - simply notify a member of our team, and we will be happy to assist. At the main entrance, there is a small step; however, we have a portable ramp readily available to ensure easy access for wheelchair users and guests with mobility needs.
We encourage guests to call ahead or let us know upon arrival if assistance is needed, and our staff will promptly accommodate. Despite the limitations of a historic structure, we remain fully committed to delivering an inclusive, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for every guest. 🙂
Can I bring my own dessert?
Yes, you can bring your own dessert with a few conditions. All outside desserts must be store-bought, per the Kent County health code. For all outside desserts, we charge a $2.50 fee per person in the party.
